The size of the KIDS of El Paso group often varied.  There has been conflicting information as to the actual size of the group at any given time.  It was cited in the newspaper that there were approximately 70 teens enrolled in August of 1986 and 106 teens were reported to have been enrolled in January of 1987.  There was a State of Texas report that reflected 100 teens enrolled in May of 1988 with 25 graduates.  

The KIDS of El Paso group started with a core pioneer group of 19 teens that were initially admitted to the first KIDS program to open in Hackensack, New Jersey.  In February of 1986 the 19 El Paso teens were flown from New Jersey to El Paso, Texas on an airplane chartered by financing from a KIDS parent.  The group of 19 soon grew as both word of mouth and advertising campaigns for KIDS went public.  Many parents learned about the program at Toughlove meetings and other support groups for parents with misbehaving teens.  KIDS had an influx of admissions from Southern California in 1986-1987.  This was the beginning of the core group of 21 teens that were later relocated to start KIDS of Southern California in Yorba Linda, California in March of 1988.

KIDS of El Paso teens were enrolled from as far South as Mexico and as far North as Canada, from as far West as California and as far East as Florida.
