AUSTIN - KIDS of El Paso terrorizes and brainwashes clients, an assistant attorney general told a judge here this morning. Assistant Attorney General *** said in a hearing that she would produce evidence to show that clients of KIDS of -El Paso County Inc. are emotionally and physically abused. About 85 parents, clients and other interested people were in the courtroom of 250th District Court Judge *** for the hearing on an order issued last week that temporarily closed KIDS of El Paso. Not even convicted felons are deprived of such help, she said. Early in the program, clients are "terrorized and brainwashed," *** said. Early in the program, clients are not allowed to read, speak freely, receive mail or phone calls, or go anywhere alone. *** program director of KIDS of El Paso, conceded that privileges of clients were limited. "Clients entering treatment have proven to be untrusted by virtue of their track record," he said. The program has a 70 percent success rate, he said. Last Thursday, an Austin judge issued an order temporarily closing the center in El Paso, which had about 90 clients. It reopened the next morning, pending a hearing. Dr. ***, founder, president, and clinical director of KIDS Centers of America Inc. was present. During a break, he declined to discuss the case, saying he might be called as a witness. *** was hired last Friday by the parents of 58 clients wanting to stay in the program.
